Russell Cerami, as most of you know, passed away Monday night. Russ was a dedicated advocate of Professional Firefighters and had an impact on every aspect of our job. He was hired in July 1961 and retired in January of 1994. During that time he was very active with the union, tirelessly working to better our livelihood. He was instrumental in the enacting of Act 111 of 1968 which gives us binding arbitration rights in negotiating. He was President of the Pennsylvania Professional Firefighters Association, and the 4th District Vice President of the IAFF from 1984-96, representing firefighters and locals from Pennsylvania, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. He presently holds highly regarded position of Vice President Emeritus of the IAFF.
He is survived by his wife, of 65 years Doris, two sons Russell, and retired firefighter Dave. Also, many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Viewing hours will be at Brugger Funeral Home at 845 East 38th St.
Friday October 12 from 2-4 and 6-8pm.
Saturday October 13 Service begins at 9am at funeral home with a pass and review prior to transport to church. Class A uniforms.
2 groups of 2 members are needed to be honor guards from 9-9:30am.
Funeral will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 28th and East Ave at 10am. We will participate also at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery after the funeral.
